Stanford 2005 Graduation Ceremony

LISTENING

Three stories were given by Steve Jobs, who is co-founder and CEO of Apple, to all of graduated student from Stanford University of California. The three stories were about connecting the dots, love and loss, and dead. Each story contained lots of advices as well as experiences to all of the students; therefore, once they graduated from the school, they would survive with a better life in the real society. Begin from Steve's childhood experiences based on the first story about Connecting the Dots. Steve was adopted by a lawyer and his wife. He graduated from Stanford with a very hard life: "I didn't have a dorm room, so I slept on the floor in friends' rooms, I returned coke bottles for the 5¢ deposits to buy food with, and I would walk the 7 miles across town every Sunday night to get one good meal a week at the Hare Krishna temple. I loved it." he said. People can not connect the dots looking forward; you can only connect them looking backwards. So you have to trust that the dots will somehow connect in your future. The second story is about LOVE and LOSS. People have to know what they love to do and try their best to achieve it. If they have not find it yet, keep looking do not give up. Steve found what he loves to do early in life, and finally started a computer company calls Apple. Unfortunately, Steve got fire, but he did not give up and decided to start over. "The heaviness of being successful was replaced by the lightness of being a beginner again, less sure about everything." Steve said. After that, Steve married Laurene and they have a wonderful family. Mistake is the best experience, so do not get upset or lose faith, and do not settle. The last story is about Death. People have to know what they are going to do at the last minute, but they have to chang something if they do not know the answer. Nobody in the entire world want to die no matter what, but they have to. Facing the death and fight back to get what we want before everything late. Life is limited so do not waste it, just hit the nail on the head. Do what we have to do and keep other things away.
